Compress images without uploading them anywhere

Big image files slow down websites, fill up inboxes, and eat storage. This image compressor re-encodes your picture at a smaller file size using your browser's built-in graphics engine. Drag the quality slider and watch the size — and the savings — update in real time before you download.

Because all the work is done locally on your device, your images are never sent to a server. That's faster, and far more private, than tools that upload your files.

Tips for the best results

  • Photos: choose JPG at 70–85% quality for the best balance of size and clarity.
  • Smallest possible file: switch to WebP — it usually beats JPG at the same quality.
  • Web use: set a max width (e.g. 1600px) so huge camera images are resized down before compressing.
  • Transparency: note that exporting to JPG replaces transparency with a solid background; keep WebP to preserve it.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. Compression happens entirely in your browser using the HTML canvas. Your images never leave your device.

Why is my PNG bigger after compressing?

PNG is lossless, so photos often shrink far more when exported as JPG or WebP. For graphics with few colors, PNG can still be smaller — try both formats.

Does compressing reduce image quality?

Lossy formats like JPG and WebP discard some detail to save space. At 70–85% quality the difference is usually invisible while the file gets much smaller.

Is there a size limit?

No fixed limit, but extremely large images depend on your device's memory since everything runs locally.
